| My
experience at UH might be a bit different than the
average. I was in the honors college, on scholarship, and
graduated in 3 years. Out of high school, I was
accepted to more prestigous schools, but chose UH for one
reason, the generous academic scholarship they gave me. Now, the
English Department is the best in the world for the
tuition one pays. No exageration here. Creative writing is #2
in the country behind Johns Hopkins, and the literature and
linguistic programs are equally as strong. UH is large enough
that the departments can offer many fun elective courses, while
still keeping the classes small. In athletics, we play in
CUSA. All games are free, unlike most school. The baseball
team is a perennial top 25 power, the football team
played in the hawaii bowl last year, and the basketball
team has more tradition that any other school in the
country. Hell, Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, and Elvin Hayes played
here, just to name a few. Andre Ware also won
the Heisman here in the early 90's. Women's basketball is
in the top ten right now, and jus got a
#3 seed in the NCAA tournament. The campus is big,
but spotted with impressive buildings and beautiful landscaping. I got
a sweet job in the writing center that payed $10
an hour. It also got me into the grad school
of my choice. I will always be a Cougar and
am forever greatful for the opportunities this university has given
me. Fight for Red and White! Eat 'em up Coogs!
