I've been in the military for some time and traveled a lot. People here are no different, I actually feel more comfortable seeing the cultural diversity. Some places you go to in Houston are segregated by choice and you might see less than 10% diversity. I think a lot of people in Houston have a shield and tend to mind their business but a simple smile and hello usually disarms them.I love the education I'm receiving but the days of used books are coming to an end. Most classes I've taken needed online homework or activity access so the book was worthless. Hell the access cost more than the book. I don't kid myself in this schools purpose. To collect as much as possible from its students, but it's the same everywhere with higher education.
I plan on receiving my degree in the shortest time I can get it, but I do find it discouraging that people expect a Van Wilder experience and prestige for the school. It's not a second choice for all of us, and city life is what you make it. If more people initiated conversations instead of having others start it first then they might find this place a little friendlier.
