So I guess I could be considered an "inactive" mormon, but my family converted to the church when I was very young so I didn't really have a choice in the matter. point being as i grew up i tried pulling away but my parents didnt let me but thats a different story.

I went into byu with a positive attitude, knowing it wouldn't be everything I hoped for, but i had some friends and family there so I wanted to do my best to be happy. at first it started out great made a lot of friends living in the dorms and had a solid time. than everything started to change.

IF YOU ARE A MALE AND DO NOT PLAN ON GOING ON A MISSION FOR THE CHURCH DO NOT GO THERE!!! that's as simple as I can put it. Not only are you going to lose all your friends after your first or second semester from going on missions, but even if you blatantly tell all your friends, your family, your teachers, pretty much EVERYONE in your life, even if you don't know them, will pressure you to go on a mission. Its unbearable to tell you the truth, and it makes you feel so incredibly bad about yourself for being who you want to be and doing what you want to do that it leads you to question yourself and can lead to depression or worse.

That was honestly the worst part for me. oh and btw if you are a male there and you do not go on a mission or don't plan to, then forget about girls, they avoid you like the plague. If you aren't someone they deem worthy or "temple" material than you have no chance… just saying. This isn't to say you can't be friends with them because I, to this day, have some amazing friends that are girls there, but it will never progress into more. Sucks too because mormon girls are hot, just saying.

Alright moving on, Academically—BYU is a school of 35,000+ people. It's ridiculous. My average class size at BYU was over 200 people which is insane, and completely un-enjoyable. I truly hated this aspect of it. I am a hands on learner and participation crucial for me when trying to learn. This being said its hard to almost impossible at BYU and most classes are completely lecture based with teachers reading off their own slides, maybe adding a thing here or there. Avoid big classes if possible.

My favorite class at BYU was my honors English class, it was one of the highlights of my experience there. It only had 14 people and my professor was amazing. you rock Professor South!!! GET IN THE HONORS PROGRAM IF POSSIBLE!!! It will be worth it if you are like me.

Oh and the professors are close minded because of church doctrine, especially science professors, because they all have to prove how their subject makes the church true, that was just a little frustrating. Oh and if you don't like praying or singing before class BYU is not the place for you.

Alright ill finish off now but I have two sisters and a ton of friends at BYU, I love them all and I am extremely happy that they are happy there. BYU definitely could be the place for you, but i definitely encourage you to know exactly what your getting into if you are going to school there. If you were raised around non mormons, trust me it will still be very hard to adjust to life. if you dont want to go on a mission dont just please dont go there.

If you do decide to go there, good luck! I hope you transition well and fit in there! If you go there and its not for you, don't wait for it to get better because it won't, transfer it will be the best decision of your life!
