Christopher Newport is a small University. Keeping that in mind it resembles a lot like high school. Everyone knows one another somehow and can be annoying if you are trying to constantly meet new people. If you didn't like high school you most likely won't like CNU. The dorm life is nice depending on where you live. It will either be very social or very quite so make sure you find people to talk to in your hall. Also, the food is not that great. The only meals that are good is breakfast and the themed meals. Other than that the food is not that great if you are used to decent home cooked meals. The people are friendly but at the same time very rude and close minded. CNU cost a lot of money to attend so there are a lot of people who come from well-off or wealthy families. There IS LITTLE TO NO DIVERSITY. So if you were looking for a place to meet new people from many different backgrounds CNU is not your place.

The off campus life there is not a lot of things you can do off campus in the city. Sure the beach is 30 minutes away but making time for it and also going when it's warm enough doesn't really happen during the year. It only happens at the beginning and the end of the school year when the weather is warm. Parties are very commons almost every weekend or on the weekdays. So you never have to worry about that social aspect. Sororities and Fraternities ARE common. CNU has a lot of students that participate in Greek Life. Even though a small amount of students are them it's a small campus and it feels like almost every other person is in one. So if you are looking a campus with a fair amount of people in Greek Life CNU is great for you.

Classes some professors are better than others but they are always in the offices wit the assigned hours and are usually very helpful. For my Biology major there is a lot of work that is put into it but it got easier second semester.

CNU is small and doesn't offer a lot of diverse majors or minors so make sure they offer everything you want to pursue.

Also, another problem that some people have is the AOI (Area of Inquiry) it makes CNU a liberal art college. You take classes that make you a well rounded person. So you have to classes that don't have anything to do with your major. So if you would solely like to focus on your major CNU might not be the place for you.

Overall CNU is a great school socially (in some ways) and academically but if you didn't like high school or would like to meet new people from different backgrounds I don't recommend CNU for you.
