Uhm you went to W&M for art and yet everyone else is the problem? I encourage prospies to look into the schools they are interested in, rather than just looking to a name. |
Major: Fine Arts - Painting/Sculpture/Photography/etc (This Major's Salary over time)
I was a freshman student when I transferred to another college. William and Mary was a huge disappointment to me. I had graduated from a girls prep school with very high academic standards, expecting college to be challenging while encouraging students to achieve. My classes at W&M were not as good as my high school classes had been. W&M required an Art History class which I had already taken in highschool - the college class was much lower quality than my highschool class had been!!!I found instructors had no time for student's questions out side of class and the whole attitude was one of indifference. My art classess were full of education majors and athletes who just needed to fulfill a class requirement - not really interested in creative arts. The arts were definitely considered second class (as they are unfortunately, in most public school systems).W&M's reputation for high academic standards was WAY overrated. I became bored and skipped most of my classes in my second semester there - I still passed all exams and got 'good grades'!Student life consisted of getting drunk at Frat parties. Not for me!It's like the story of the Emperor's New Clothes - people who are happy with the way things are there exist in a kind of pseudo academic world - everyone else can see the truth - the Emperor is naked even though he thinks his 'new clothes' are wonderful and people who are afraid to disagree with him only confirm his illusion! To me, W&M was like all the failures of the public school system, magnified into a University.
