Longwood University

I am not going to be a physics major any more, but the department is very close-knit. If you're going to major in physics, this is a great place to do it—it's not Tech, but it's still very good.

My biggest gripe with Longwood is that there is literally nothing to do here. On the weekends, if you aren't into partying, you are SOL, and you'll probably end up drinking anyway. I know that college is supposed to be about education, but some entertainment every now then isn't too much to ask.

The clubs I was in are generally pointless. I was part of the Outdoor Club for the first half of the first semester and they had to cancel three events in a row; not enough people were interested in participating—and they only needed 10 per event. The Political Science club, perhaps unsurprisingly, used up all their time talking about how to spend their money. By the way, the campus leans conservative Republican if that's your thing.

The University sponsors the same two events every weekend—some movie in the Student Union ball room, and something else going on in the Student Union cafe (usually an open mic night). Few go to these things; the rest usually go out and drink. If you like reading on the weekends, you'll have a good time—your hall will be quiet and empty all night.

That said, Longwood is a nice place if you are solely going to college for an education and not for the experience. The professors are all very involved with their students and are good at what they do, and the course work is challenging, but not impossible. I've been able to see myself grow intellectually here, and that's not something I can say at all about high school.

The students here are generally the same ones who spent their high school careers partying and getting decent grades. Most of them are at least somewhat friendly, and they are mostly good people as well. There aren't many artsy folks here, though there are a few of your classic gamer/anime nerds, especially in the computer science department. I hate classifying and grouping people, and I hope I'm not coming off as condescending, but this is generally an accurate depiction of what I've seen at Longwood.

All in all, I've learned a lot about myself here. But I rarely ever have much fun, though some of that is due to the fact that I'm not very social and I have a very difficult time connecting with people. I'm starting to get over it, though. Still, almost everyone agrees with me that this place is REALLY boring.

Finally, the internet connection is fast. Yay for the internet.
