Middlebury's student body is composed of a majority of rich party kids. I met some really great people and there are many who are friendly, but mostly I found the students to be unapproachable and close-minded. If you want an outdoors oriented college life, Middlebury is is very suitable. I found the winters perfect for snowshoeing, skiing, and having cold fun outside. The bitter cold in January only keeps the unadventurous brat inside. I didn't sense a terribly creative atmosphere within Middlebury; people seemed content to just study and drink until they puke in the hall way. Unless you have a car or friend with one, the campus can become horribly isolating. You have to take an expensive transportation service to get to either the airport or the train stations nearby. The nearest and only "big" city in the entire state of Vermont is a 30-40 minute drive. My expectations for Midd were sadly unmet in most regards. Go here if you don't stress too much and can handle the conformists in polo shirts and baseball caps. Most have the same fleece too. I am transfering.
