Certainly things have changed since I graduated from WWU in 1987. First of all it was dirt cheap to get an education then I paid no more than $1260 a year tuition As well you could live on under $5000 for Room and board. I didn't find the school clicky. I didn't hang out with many others who attended the school from my high school.

My biggest complaint was the school wasn't designed to get into your right major and it's liberal arts classes that are required are hefty. However, they did help prepare me to think critically and communicate effectively.

At the time I went, the quality and quantity of companies recruiting from Western was by any standard thin. I hope that would have changed. It's reputation good or bad had little to do with getting hired with a software company.

Beyond that, I found it a wonderful place to go to school. The teachers in my concentration area of my major were quite helpful. I had opportunity to do independent study in my major. I felt it had access to the things I wanted to do socially.

To me a lot of the negative posts has to do with students expectations of undergraduate education changing. The cost of a University education is more like a down payment on a $1 million home now. If you not getting the classes you need at $35 to 40K a year, you have the right to be upset.

If your a high school student and you are concerned about being in debt over $100 K to go anywhere. Do Advanced placement, take community college courses and transfer in with an associates degree. When you get to your school of choice get it done as fast as possible. If you go right in don't over do it the first semester and first year, socially or educationally. Learn how to manage your time.
