Major: English (This Major's Salary over time)
I will give it a Neutral since my experience was mixed with positives and negatives. Students: Average, but tended to overrate themselves. People were accepting and friendly, but many were just open-minded for its own sake and lacking genuine thoughtfulness. Activist groups on campus were jokes, each in its own ways. There were really not many interesting events going on and I suffered from a lack of cultural scene. Nevertheless, I met some wonderful friends here. Academics: Some wonderful wonderful professors, they changed my life. Some others were either arrogant or boring. But it was very very true that professors were very approachable. Classroom experience: most of my classes were discussion-based, and a lot of the times I was just sitting there and wondering why I was paying all these money to listen to my fellow students' bullshit. I heard at least three truly dumb, racist, or sexist comments for each of my classes each term. And I found it distasteful that many students here studied for grades or discussed and worried about their GPA too much. Party scene: Lame. Same people, same places. same same same same equals boring. Residence life: Average. I compared LU with other LAC dorms, and I think the majority of rooms in Lawrence are just prison cells. And if you are not mature student or double degree, you basically have to live on campus for the entire four years and have to join an extravagant meal plan. So if you are a serious and intellectual students, look somewhere else. Not for my scholarship I wouldn't have stayed. One way to find out if this is a school for you, just look up the student newspaper, visit campus and Appleton AND also visit other schools, and talk to people. Some people absolutely loved it, some found it okay, some had to stay, and a few just dropped out, so be aware who are you talking to. Best wishes.
