At first you?re probably thinking that Marquette is going to be this great urban school near the heart of Milwaukee where there will be endless chances for nightlife, activities, and an overall great social atmosphere, close to many attractions, while most importantly, providing a top tier college education....wait...stop there.

First off Marquette is near the heart of Milwaukee, except it?s bordered on 3 sides by the worst ghettos and dangerous parts of the city.  While you may think or they may tell you that DPS, the rent-a-cop police force that patrols Marquette, will keep you safe, in reality and in the grand scheme of things, they can do little to stop the amount of drug deals, robberies, holdups, and criminal activity that plague the campus area.  It doesn?t help that many major bus routes come through the heart of campus, where they drop off droves of homeless, poor, shady, and criminal individuals that make it their duty to either harass you, rob you, or just dirty up our campus in general.  I mean it?s sad when right outside my dorm at McCormick Hall (which is by the way the biggest piece of shit ever) in mid afternoon I see countless drug deals, pot smoking and fist fights between some bums from the ghetto.  I?m paying 40,000 to go here; I should at least be protected in the middle of the day on a busy street (Wisconsin AVE.)It is true that they keep up the academic part of the campus nice, but the surrounding campus where much of the upperclassman lives is one giant piece of crap.  The city of Milwaukee never fixes any streets, signs, or cleans in general.  Many houses are barely kept up, trash sits on the lawns for weeks, and it seriously looks like a tornado went through.

The nightlife is well, alright if you know what to do.  If you don?t have a fake ID, you?re pretty much screwed, unless you?re a slutty girl who is willing to give bj's for beers, or you?re a guy and willing to kiss a frat guys ass to get into their house parties, which are nearly the only ones ever on campus.  I choose to get a fake, and it was the best decision I've made here.  The bars on Water Street and Old World Third Street are pretty sweet, and the atmosphere is much more laid back compared to the uptight atmosphere of MU.

The people here are super arrogant.  Most hail from the rich suburbs of Chicago, where mommy and daddy just send up them here so they can tell all their CEO friends in Chicago that their kid goes to Marquette.....please.  This campus is nothing more than a place for the elite of Illinois to send their kids to be babysat until mommy or daddy can get them a job at their own place of work after college.  I love too how they will rip on Wisconsin and Milwaukee on how shitty it is compared to Chicago.....if you hate it so much then leave already!

The academics are very average, and for the price it?s outrageous.  The teachers are mostly rejects from UW-Madison or using the school as a stepping stone to get into a better big ten or out east school, so they care little about Marquette pride or tradition.  They make the course work hard and care more about making their portfolio look better then help you get a better grade on a test.

Again about Activities and Nightlife.....

There are only 2 main things to do on campus at night and on the weekends, drink till you near death or sit in your room and play Xbox, watch TV, and bum around like the rest of Milwaukee.  Most people decide to just sit in their room, since I see the same people at many parties.  Except for Sports games, there are very few things to do at night and have fun.  Plus, if you don?t drink until you pass out, people say you?re “not doing it big”.  Like seriously?  What do I have to all do to “do it big” I love to drink as much as the next guy, but why do I have to drink until I almost land in the hospital to say I had a good night.  I mean I'm from Wisconsin, so I know how to drink beer, but seriously, people make it a priority to be that guy in the group that pukes every night.  Like that isn?t doing it big, its called being “sloppy”.  I've had friends from highs school visit me that are from Madison and Iowa State, and even they admit that people don?t even party hard here, they just get sloppy, and end up passing out in a LIMO.  That's cool, I remember my first beer.  This is to be expected however, after all half of the kids that come here are use to drinking their parent?s wine coolers in Illinois in high school.

And another tip, don?t come here if you?re not prepared to wear this

Girls: Tights (even if your fat), oversized sweatshirt or North Face jacket, Sperry's Boat Shoes

Guys: A and F Collared Shirt, Sperry's Boat Shoes, North Face Jacket

(Like seriously, does everyone here have to wear the same fuckin thing every day?)

So in all honesty, AVOID AVOID AVOID this school at all costs, if you got in here you probably got into a few other schools that are much better.  I have one month left in this shit hole and am heading south and running away from all the North Face, ?doing it big?  talk and arrogant Illinois people?.I can?t wait!
