Being a minority student I found Madison to be a very accepting school. Given every school has there problems, but if you get involved in activities involved with your specific group, you are going to fit in. It is easy to find a representative group.

I have attended a few other college's before this and none of them compare to the level of education I have recieved here. Furthermore, I have been able to talk one on one with all my professors and they are very understanding helpful people who don't mind taking the time to talk to you if you approach them.

I live in the Wisconsin dorms and have found everyone to be very friendly. There is an "open door" policy and people will leave there doors open so you can just pop in and talk to them, it created a very open enviroment.

There are always things to do in Madison, I'm not a big drinker, but there are always parties on campus and especially around game day. If your not a big drinker, there is also plenty to do around campus.

Given there are some safety concerns, but those are the same as they would be living in any big city or on any college campus. They have programs to help you out but you are always takin a risk going out at night, this isn't just a UW thing though, this is a sad statement on todays society.

Another thing, I have found that most people do come from a pretty high income bracket. Coming from a low income family this was the hardest thing for me to adjust too, however, the friendly nature of people superceeded that and it wasn't as if anyone was assuming that their parents made more money made them better then anyone.

I lived in the Lakeshore dorms and will say time and time agian that if you are looking for a education and to be surrounded by intellegent people, not just those to party, then the lakeshore dorms are the way to go.
