After reading some negative reviews of UW-Madison I thought anybody who takes these reviews seriously should know a couple of things. 1. UW-Madison is statistically better than any other school (including the UW system) in the state. While statistics do not encompass the entirety of a school's eseence they provide a solid foundation on which any type of educational comnparison can be made. 2. UW ranks so high becasue of its national and internatioal recognition. In the "real world" grad. programs and employers seriously consider the prestige of an educational insitution. While intellegent individuasl go to many different colleges some grad programs (esp. Law and Medicine) quite openly state the importanceof your undergrad school's reputation. 3. In an ever incresingly specialized and competitive environment in college/professional admissions it is more and more important to aim as high as you can and then make a decision between schools that are comparibly similar in reputation.4. My own expirience: coming from a large public research university such as UW students have to expect to make some sacrifices in terms of professor acceibility and student body, just as if you go to a small private (or not as prestigious) university you give up faculty quality and educational resources. lastly 5, I would recommend going to UW if you are driven and are striving for post-B.A/B.S work and want to experience a top quality university in a fantastic city. My reason's to attend UW were not only for the college expireice but getting the best degreee possible for my money and ability.
