UW Madison is a very large research university. The faculty are for the most part quite focused on what they are doing in terms of research—often to the point that education is second to research. With that being said however it must be said that if the student is serious and willing to take part in research and be interested in learning the opportunities are limitless. While class sizes can often be quite large, especially entry level prereq courses, the experience a student can receive can be compared to the ivies—that is, of course, YOU are willing to learn.
