Being Trinidadian and Polish, I have a different view on the campus atmosphere in general. I have run into some racism (from both the white and the black students), even though this is unfortunate, you have to keep in perspective that every campus has this problem. Next, I am from a big city, most of these people are from very small towns, they tend to be close minded. If you do not drink, there is nothing to do on campus, other then study and hang out with your sober friends. This is also a backpack campus, it is dead on the weekends, which can be nice, yet lonely because some of your friends will be gone. Yet, I have found numerous opportunities here. As a freshman I am doing independent research and one of my professors offered me a summer research fellowship. This is a rare opportunity. All in all, there are both negative and positive things about this campus and I am only staying because of the research opportunities that I am getting.
