I've been waitlisted to LMU, and I hope to major in History. Can you elaborate on LMU's history program? |
Major: History/Histories (art history/etc.) (This Major's Salary over time)
I've noticed that many students do not go to LMU for academics. There seems to be a general apathy toward learning. It's really disappointing that as a Senior, I am still be in classes with people who are just there for their degree. Core classes are a pain in the ass, especially since a lot if the seemingly interesting ones listed in the bulletin are never actually offered. I am hoping to go to graduate school, but I feel like most of my education here has been geared toward giving degrees and I do not feel very prepared. However, I am extremely happy with the History department. Most of my history professors have been outstanding and very helpful. Most of my classes have been small (especially my upper division ones) and in my experience, the ones that have had less than fifteen students have been the best by far. I feel like I lucked out by choosing to be a History major, as I have heard that other departments (such as Economics and Political Science) are subpar. The LMU library is a joke. It's low quality says a lot about the students here; most would rather have a new gym. My advice? If you want to go to LMU for academic reasons, do some research on the quality of your major. If you want the experience of belonging to a community of mature students who are passionate about learning and interested in issues beyond gossip, look elsewhere. You won't find it at LMU.
