Overall LMU is a decent school; some of the teachers are good, the campus is beautiful, and the people are generally nice.  After spending close to a year at the school here is what I have found:

-Public Safety abuses their power to a very large extent.  They will go out of their way to write you up for whatever they can.  A large part of the school's revenue comes from the fines that are given to students who are “violating policy.” I know numerous students who have had to pay upwards of $1000 for policy violations.

-The teachers here are for the most part terrible.  I have had two engaging and knowledgeable teachers (out of ten teachers total) my freshman year.  Most teachers are lazy and dull, but are accessible if you need help after class which is nice.

-The student body consists of generally very wealthy but also very nice and friendly people.  I found that there are a lot of under-qualified and unintelligent kids at the school who were accepted either because they were very wealthy or were adding to the school's diversity.

-There is absolutely no school spirit.  This is mainly due to terrible sports teams.  The water polo team was one of the best in the nation...but who gives a fuck about water polo.

-I would estimate 40% of undergraduates go home from Friday to Sunday.  This makes the campus dead on the weekends, but also makes the otherwise totally packed parking lot empty, so you can snag a good parking spot.

-The social life here is pretty fun.  There is usually something going on every weekend and I found the social life in my dorm (Rosecrans) to be remarkable.  The social scene comes at a price in the dorms tho as it is almost certain that you will get written up by an RA or Public Safety at some point.  There is a decently strong greek life, but there are no Frat houses.  Fraternity's and Sororities are more like social groups that get together around once or twice a week.

-Know that once you step on campus, you loose all of your rights.  Your room can be searched, your car can be searched, and as for medical marijuana the school goes by federal law, so you will be severely punished for otherwise legally having or being under the influence of marijuana.

-There is zero tolerance for marijuana at this school.  Public Safety and RA's seek out marijuana users.  If you smell like marijuana, your room will get searched.  If you admit to smoking off campus or being with people smoking off campus you will get punished.  For any case concerning marijuana, the sanctions given to the student include but are not limited to: $200 fine, letter home to parents, random drug testing for 1 year, attendance of Marijuana Anonymous classes (at off campus locations), reflective essay, housing probation.  There is a hefty fine if any of these sanctions are not completed.
