| I'm
sure there are a whole bunch of people that would
love SDSU, but if you're into any type of art
or culture, its not for you. SDSU has the reputation
of being a party school, and while in many cases
that's not a bad thing, it is here. every single
thing there is to do on the weekends has to
do with the greek system, which is by far the
most prominent thing on campus. Not only is the greek
system sketchy and out of control (there have already been
multiple accusations of date rape and a fraternity actually got
kicked off campus for that reason while I've been here),
but everyone is narrow minded and shallow. For someone who
is interested in art and music, I felt like the
only friends I have made here either also plan on
transferring, or are commuters that have no choice but to
go here. If you plan on being in a fraternity,
you are more likely to have friends, but at the
expense of being as shallow as possible, and don't expect
to get any good grades, because everyone I know involved
in the greek system goes out and parties EVERY NIGHT.
I'm not smashing the fraternity system as a whole, but
the ones here are ridiculous. They don't let guys into
parties at a lot of houses, only girls. while i'm
not sure if SDSU is the only place where that
happens, it seems like there are about 100 potentially bad
scenarios that could come out of that.
As far as
academics, all the teachers are really nice and approachable, and
I think thats a result of the general student population
not being involved with academics enough to talk to them.
And I have actually learned a lot here. As an
art major, I think the art department is one of
the better ones for promoting creativity, at least compared with
the other schools that people have told me about. My
overwhelmingly big complaint is the social life, which is dominated
by narrow minded fraternity and sorority members who forgot why
they went to college in the first place a long
time ago. So if thats the life for you, then
San Diego State is perfect. If not, then you will
either be sucked into it or wind up sitting in
the lobby every night.
