don't go for the surroundings, go for the colleges. claremont is a pretty crappy place and i'm not wild about LA either. but taking classes at all the colleges, and meeting people from all the colleges, makes going to scripps worthwhile. plus, since they send almost 2/3 of their students abroad for at least one semester, you have a good chance of getting off campus if you really want to.
