Ok
so it SUCKS. But it doesnt have to suck that
hard. It's a community collge that just became a regular
college and supposed to be changing everything in the years
to come. Now having said that here is what you
will find: MDC is come in take classes and get
out, dont expect any activities in-school or groups or anything
of the sort. The only clubs here are the academic
clubs, theres no frat/sorority and no school housing of any
type. There are Three major campus and some other small
ones. The Kendall one i find to be the
best, big, enough parking, lots of people, a variety of
professors, track, field, pool, gym etc. Then its wolfson which
is urban, right in the middle of downtown miami, lacks
what kendall has but still a good variety of professors.
Then interamerican which is the worst, you'll find mostly cuban
people who can't speak english, but you will still find
some great professors.
I must say that with all
the sucking, i find many of the professors to be
great, you have to look at ratemyprofessors to get the
good ones but they have them, and they wont treat
you like another number. Ive taken all my math(calculus 1
to 3, differential equations etc) and the teachers are always
accessible and understanding. You got to keep in mind that
many of these professors have taught in FIU, and some
in good universities too.
Opportunities are there i am
sure, you just have to look for them because they
wont come by themselves. I do engineering, and the engineering
department has a deal with other schools on transfer students.
The most notable is with georgia tech(top 20 in the
country for tech), where they accept you with a Associates
Degree In pre-engineering with a 3.0 gpa guaranteed. I know
people who have gone there thanks to MDC.
The
general concensus of the student body is to slack, so
unless you want to be there forever you have to
be determined and ofcourse not slack. ITs easy to slack
because although the student life sucks, the surrounding city, MIAMI
offers great night life. CLubs open all week, most up
to 5am in the week and weekends open up to
9am to 12pm the next day, Miami Beach is minutes
away, the whether is always great.
If you
can get over that you will find that there are
good tutors in the math labs to help you and
in any other labs you need. I spend entire days
studyign there and the tutors are free no matter what
you will find someone to explain that physics or math
section you cant understand. Same for biology and anatomy.
For the price of the college its a great opportunity
for florida residents to get their gpa up and transfer.
Also out of state people wishing to transfer to USF,
UM, FSU, UCF, that weren't accepted are more likely to
be accepted if you do your first two years at
a florida community collge and then transfer to these with
an AA.
Im just done with my AA in engineering
and all i have is great things to say about
my professors and tutors although i utterly hate most of
the people in school because they are closeminded and all
want to look the same and be the same (boring).
However im happy that i'm transfering soon to UF or
FSU (undecided) and getting out. Hope it helped.
