Major: Math (This Major's Salary over time)
Berkeley is old, new, beautiful and ugly all at once. On one side of campus you have the hip if not nitty gritty street life of Telegraph Ave, imagine Haight Ashbury next to a college campus. Yet on the other side of campus you have a natural and architectural beauty unsurpassed by any city in America with almost a Tolkien-esque quality. In one hand you have access to world renowned professors teaching in small classes when you are in your upper divison courses, yet on the other hand you are one of a hundred freshmen listening to a lecture in a large hall. Imagine my surprise when my first upper division class in Math was taught by none other than Nobel Prize winner Gerard Debreu. Sure that class had about 50 students but most upper division math and stat courses had under 10 students.Berkeley has one of the best reputations among other universities. They know Berkeley requires tough courses and even tougher grading policies. More undergradtuates from Berkeley go on to receive graduate degrees than any other college in the country.
