Major: Linguistics (This Major's Salary over time)
The Linguistics Department at the time was primarily oriented toward the theoretical rather than the applied, which meant lots of armchair fun, but not a lot of preparation for other than going on to be a professor…there were a few exceptions, John Ohala had a sense of the real world, Leanne Hinton did hands on work with "rescue lingustics". Nowadays you can get employed at Google as a linguistic. But when I graduated, I had no options to use my training, except very generally in terms of quantitative and qualitative analysis.
