The graduate students and professors aren't the ones having the "fun" so i don't see how that would affect their jobs providing educational opportunity |
Major: Computer Science (This Major's Salary over time)
UCSB was a fun school. It was a very unique environment to be in. But at the expense of being a "fun" school, educational quality suffers dramatically. UCSB has a tremendous reputation for a lot of the research it does, particularly in engineering fields. This reputation does not, however, trickle down to undergraduate programs. While I can't speak for the other majors, professors in various engineering departments are often horrible. Rarely did I have a professor that actually cared about the students' educations. Rarely did I have a professor that truely helped me gain something personally that I couldn't have simply learned out of a text book. More often than not, it seemed that most professors were simply there to do a job, not to actually teach. The facilities were sub-par, most teaching assistants were a joke, and securing an appointment with a counselor was nearly impossible.I could go on for hours, but I hope I have said enough. If you have a choice, do not choose UCSB.
