Major: English (This Major's Salary over time)
I am a first year english major. By fall of next year, I will have transferred to a small, liberal arts school. Here is my advice: if you are one of the students who looks at the negative comments on this page and says, "they seem like losers" or reason that the negative comments are in the minority and won't apply, then you will love it here. You will love it here if you want the Animal House experience. You will love it here if you don't care about your education and are looking for easy A's. It will be the best four years of your life you like lots of time to "chill" and "hang out." I came here because I had a stressful high school experience and said "fuck it, Santa Barbara seems like fun." My frustrations with this school, primarily the lack of drive and motivation in the students, fosters this hatred of young pleasure seeking people in the country. If you read Brave New World, this school is the end of the book where he gives up rebelling and accepts the orgae. It truly, deeply saddens me that this is considered, albeit towards the end of the list, one of the top 50 schools in the nation and the top 13th public school. Not to say there aren't good qualities about the school. The weather is gorgeous, but monotonous. The kids are friendly, although fucking idiots. I've had some AMAZING professors, but the kids just don't seem to care. If you want to waste your money on a mediocre education COME ONE COME ALL. There are two types of students here: ones that are "different" and hate it and every other blonde in uggs and mini skirts. I went back to L.A. one weekend a few months in and realized "omg fat and black people exist!" You wouldn't know that living here. I.V. sucks all of the creativity out of you.
