I've attended 6 different schools with my various graduate degrees and certifications including two Ivies (Yale & Columbia) yet I still value the great education I received inside and outside the classroom/lab at UCSB. When I was just starting a physician told me a funny story about when he was in Med School at UCSD he asked a question in class and the professor said come down and see me after class. After class the professor commended him on asking such a great question saying where did you do your college work. UCSB replied the med student. "Oh I would have thought you would have said some place good like Harvard or something." This was back in 1987 and the guy had gone to SB in the late 70's early 80's. Now when I tell people I went to UCSB they say "WOW, that's a great school." Perceptions change but I think it's been a pretty great school for some time. The one big difference I notice between UCSB and the Ivies is the opportunities are greater at the Ivies but I think that will improve as the reputation continues to improve.
