As far as academics go, depending on your major you could be really challenged or skate by with minimal effort. Everyone thinks this campus is a crazy party school but its really not and there isn't a huge drug scene like some people will have you think. The student body, aside from being very liberal, is unremarkable. But the reason this place sucks so much is the administration. Since I've been here they have been consistently cutting classes and resources while raising fees and enrollment. Every year our tuition and fees go up while the quality of education we receive gets worse. I know California is going through hard times financially with the budget crisis but the UCSB administration is sparing no luxury while they transfer the budget crisis onto the backs of the student body. Its disgusting the way this campus is run, and you would have to be STUPID to pay out-of-state tuition to attend a crappy school like this, it isn't even worth the in-state tuition. All you are paying for is the name on your degree, and even that is not worth it since UCSB's reputation is tarnished by its past and it'll always be in the shadows of UCLA and Cal.
