What matters the most is how USC ranks in the world, and it ranks in the top 50. I don't care what we do in class or if the professors even teach anything. What matters is how it ranks. |
I heard some said USC's financial aid is generous. When son applied in 2011, we were asked to fill out the online financial profile, which asked about our retirement accounts/401K, the value of our house when we purchased it and how much we still owed and a lot more questions. Half way through the financial profile, I picked up the phone and called the admission office to withdraw my son's application. If USC thinks that we would sell our modest home and empty our retirement accounts to send our kids to their school, then it's quite obvious that USC's target is not the middle class families' children. My son is now attending a UC and is very happy. Both housing and the surrounding are very nice, and we pay half of what we would have to pay for USC. On top of that, my son got an internship with NASA this summer (2012). USC is no longer on our list of colleges for our daughter who is an excellent student in high school. |
If you choose a UC school over USC because of financial reasons, then I would agree with that choice. The average GPA of incoming freshmen at USC is pretty high and so is the GPA at many of the UC schools. All over the world, most people know that UC schools like Berkeley and Davis accept the world's best students. The other plus is that Berkeley and Davis are located by million dollar communities, and USC's community is nowhere near that caliber. For the kind of money USC demands, you would think that the community would be of a high socioeconomic caliber. To make a long story short, some of the UC schools have the prestige of USC and I highly recommend going this route. |
Major: Biology (This Major's Salary over time)
I feel like a lot of things were promised by USC and former students that I never saw. My classes have been large for every one of my science classes, with teachers who are friendly but do not seem very approachable. There are plenty of activities which is great, but not nearly at the accesibility level as was promised. Classes are graded harshly in science while not actually giving great understanding of concepts. All in all, average school.
