Major: Linguistics (This Major's Salary over time)
I transferred to CU from a private out of state college because I switched from pre-med (my first school was among the top 20 for pre-med) to international business. CU has some amazing programs for international business in conjunction with CU-Denver (one of 30 CIBER schools in the nation). Sadly, known of the language students I met even knew this program existed.

Language course work as challenging; of course, Japanese. Everything else was in lack of academic challenge. I was in the International Baccalaureate Program in high school which was far harder than any of the classes I took at CU (besides Japanese). Classes were not based on what you actually learned but racking up the points for the grade consisting of pointless attendance, clicker questions and busy work.

As far as the student life and boulder. It depends on what type of person you are and in that way, what you make of it. Night life in Boulder is surrounded around bars, drinking, partying and drugs. Much of the student population consist of either rich brats that complain about their parents not paying their credit cards, or yuppies pretending to be the rich kids. Of course, there are the smart kids (one of my classmates got accepted to grad school at Berkley, MIT and Yale) that are going to college to get an education, but finding them proves to be difficult. Many students don't have a direction, few graduate in 4 years (I graduated in 3 and transferred in) and many have little real life understanding (I also put myself through school without loans).

In conjunction with those comments, surround yourself with the right people and you will benefit. However, in view of your future degree, the latest track record and media headlines from 420 to churchill to the football sex scandal, a CU degree may not be enough. If I had not already decided on grad school prior to enrolling in college, I wouldn't have gone to cu.
