UConn is an up-and-growing flagship university. As of right now, it is taking an incredible advantage of the athletics programs (and the coaches they employ) to represent the school on a national level. This has helped the school become the best in the state and the best in New England, but it certainly doesn't mean it's perfect. The weather here is not for the faint of heart, but if you enjoy autumn and don't mind a wet winter then that shouldn't be a problem. A LOT of people in-state automatically associate UConn as a drinking school. It can be that way if you want it to, but it also harbors other opportunities. I have listed some pros and cons.

PROS:

  • UConn has very good academic programs. You must work to be successful, and the help the school offers (as well as you peers) only encourages good grades.
  • The athletic programs here are AWESOME. Trust me. Go to Gampel Pavilion for a basketball game and you will leave enthused.
  • The campus may seem big for a few weeks, but it is not hard to get around the university. Ride a bus, bring a bike, or longboard to class.
  • CONS:

  • It does help to know some things or two about alcohol when choosing to go here. During the weekends, it is one of the more popular activities.
  • Some of the buildings you will take your classes in need some work. I'm sure, if it still exists when you get here, you will hear someone joke about Arjona.
  • The campus design is pretty iffy. There is one primary road people use to get in and out, and the majority of the campus is on one side of that road. If you own a car, you might end up only using it to get home for the weekends.
