American gets a bad rap. I didn't like my first two years, but the school grew on me, and I now look back and think I made the best decision in coming to American. I talked about transfering, and I even prepared applications, but decided to wait it out. I made the right decision in retrospect. The school itself has a lot of issues, namely that the study body is entirely from the Northeast. The School of International Service, especially in the 300 (Junior) level and up is really great, and at that point the teachers are open to their students, offer great career and academic advice, and most every teacher I've had at the 300, 400 or 500 level has been exceptional. The student body (seems like at least) is from the Northeast, if you're looking to meet people from around the world like the school claims, have fun -sure there are foreigners, but for every student from outside the northeast, there are dozen from New Jersey/Massachusetts/Pennsylvania/New York.Fraternities are a joke at American, and the lack of a football team hurts school spirit, though making it to the NCAA tournament this past year helped the school a lot and changed the way students thought about their school, even if for a little bit.
