There's
two types of students that come to GW. The first
group are lazy, self-absorbed, spend the majority of their time
planning their outfits and skating through classes while getting Daddy
to find them a decent resume-building internship so when they
graduate they have a job. The second group is filled
with some of the most motivated, engaged, intellectually capable young
people who are HERE because they see the value of
a balanced education. They're here for the chance to learn
things in a classroom and then apply them at a
meaningful job. That outrageous tuition? It's paid by the first
group and subsidizes the cost of attendance for the second
group.
After I graduate from GW in May, I
will be able to say that I made incredible use
of what this city and this campus provided me. I
can say that I wrote for the best college paper
in the country (and got a few syndicated columns!), competed
on the number one mock trial team in the nation,
and worked on numerous criminal trials as not an intern,
but a real part of a criminal defense team. True,
many students graduating from GW can't say that. But my
story is not an exception. There are SO many students
at this school doing incredible things. It's up to you
to see that as motivation or intimidation. Step on campus
and talk to some people. You'll realize that most of
the people that post on a site like this don't
always take advantage of what's in front of them.
