I have a unique situation, because I commute from nearby and don't have to pay tuition. So, although I'm not having the traditional college experience, I've found Herkimer to be pleasantly surprising. The teachers are (mostly) very nice and knowledgeable, there aren't too many strict guidelines they impose and they are all generally accessible. If I had a problem in my classes, all I had to do was talk to them about it and the issue was resolved easily. College is supposed to be a challenge, and my course load isn't very stressful, but the faculty does their best to make it easier on the students. Herkimer gets a bad rap sometimes, but I've found it to be clean and friendly for the most part. It really depends on the attitude you have and the effort you're willing to put out. Of course a teacher isn't going to want to accommodate you if you're lazy and arrogant, it's common sense, so give respect here and you'll get it in return. In my one year, lectures have been interesting and informative and I haven't been overwhelmed with useless work for the sake of it. I'm glad I'm here for now, it was a good start so I can transfer to a bigger school later.
