| This
is hands down the worst college experience I've ever had.
I have attended two other universities, a community college for
two years, and University of Florida for correspondence courses. As
a psychology major, only about 30% of the elective courses
listed are actually offered, and good luck getting into any
of the classes you need! The classes only accept 24-40
students at a time, even the online courses max out
at 30-35 students, and they fill up within hours of
registration opening. How many people are in the program??? So
you end up having to wait ENTIRE SEMESTERS to take
certain classes you need because you can't get into them.
They offer many of the classes at the same exact
time on the same days, so you can only register
for one class, and not take any other classes you
need. Didn't have this problem with the other two schools
I attended. Which reminds me, I wouldn't have to take
correspondence courses with ANOTHER UNIVERSITY if my own offered them
and I could get in. It is such a pain
in the a** having to transfer credits and enroll at
another school just because my “home” school failed to give
me what I am paying for. Hey FGCU, if you
are going to hike your tuition rates by 14%, maybe
you should actually provide the classes students need to get
their degrees! I really wish I had never chosen this
school. Parking is a nightmare. The campus is out in
the open so when it rains, which is pretty frequently
during Florida summers, you get soaked. It's in a small
town, pretty much in the woods (complete with alligators walking
around on the sidewalks with you!) so there is no
nightlife. There's no football team. No fraternity or sorority houses.
What exactly does FGCU offer that other universities do not?
The nursing program almost lost accreditation because none of the
graduates could pass the boards, so they built a new
health sciences building to try and draw in more nursing
students with something shiny and new since their program sucks
so bad. If I knew this was going to be
my “college experience” with FGCU, I would never have applied.
Do yourself a favor and go to a real university,
that can offer academics as well as the fun things,
like a football team, a fun city to explore, that
prospective employers will also be able to recognize when looking
at your resume (most have never heard of FGCU).
