As a "dorm kid" from central Florida, I found FIU NOT to be the "international school" it claims to be. Most of the students live about 10 min. away and have never been out of their neighborhood because their controlling parents do not let them go to schools farther away. HOWEVER, there are some very nice people here, especially in the dorms where you find a nice mixture of students from the caribbean, south america, etc. Overall, a great education, and a surprisingly wonderful faculty coming from many ivy league schools around the US. The dorms are beautiful, but only abouot 2,000 of the 35,000 students live in them. Overall not a bad school education wise, just full of mostly self-absorbed ignorant people. If you want a school with a great social life, don't come here. If you want a good education and don't mind being completely shafted by the entire student body, by all means apply.
