Let me first start of by saying. If you?re choosing to attend F.I.U simply because you?re a small town country kid who wants to experience the city life and you think Miami is all fun and games think again. Miami is not what Hollywood portrays it to be. Hollywood?s depiction of reality is often times tainted with over dramatizations and exaggerations. If you want to know what the real Miami is like ask someone who was born and raised there (like me).The truth is Miami is infested with violent crimes, illegal aliens, drugs and severe poverty and F.I.U is not immune to any these issues. F.I.U is currently experiencing extreme budget problems and these issues manifest as regular tuition hikes and extra fees you probably never knew existed.

In addition, f.i.u has tendency to boast about having a very diverse campus, it?s a very deceptive practice and I think they should stop because this isn?t true at all. F.I.U?s student population is overwhelmingly Hispanics. It?s somewhere in the vicinity of 70%, white students account for about 20% and the remaining 10% is a combination of Blacks, Asians, Middle Eastern and others. It would be a bit more accurate for F.I.U to say that they are diverse amongst Hispanics meaning they have Hispanics from all Latin nations that attend the school. As a Haitian American student I?ll be the first to tell you that attending a university that has very few people like me isn?t comforting particularly due to the fact that racism on this campus exists among both faculty and staff. Walking around campus all you see is Hispanics and Caucasians and they have a terrible superiority complex. Also, if you?re a non Hispanic student planning to live on campus good luck, the community surrounding the campus is inhabited by non English speaking Hispanics. Every time I go to the store or to the gas station they start speaking Spanish and when I politely tell them I don?t understand, they catch a nasty attitude as if I?m required to speak their language. And if you?re a female student planning to live on campus I suggest you bring an industrial size can of pepper spray to fend off potential rapist in the area.

F.I.U has a large batch of incompetent professors who care more about getting research grants than they do about your education. The parking is terrible. If you live off campus I would suggest you come to campus at least 30 minutes early so that you can find some place to park. The bottom line is there are much more prestigious universities in the state of Florida like UM, FSU, FAMU and UF. Don?t waste your money here.
