Major: Other (This Major's Salary over time)
I'm working on a second degree so I've pretty seen it all. Look, FIU is just like any other school—your success will depend on you, and you alone. Professors are hit or miss; some are truly passionate about teaching, others are more interested in their side projects and act annoyed that they even have to teach. Get to know other students in your major and find out which professors are the best. If a bad professor can't be avoided, suck it up—that's life! We don't always get to work with people we like. Do the best you can, meet your deadlines, and before you know it you will be on to your next semester. The world is not going to end if you get a C. I don't recommend that you live on campus, as others have said they are dead starting on Fridays. If you are a serious student, the constant activities in the dorms will likely get on your nerves. I mainly go to the BBC campus, which is far more manageable that the MMC campus. My only gripe with the commute to BBC is the charter school right next door, traffic can get ugly when parents are picking up or dropping off their kids. Plus there is the school zone to contend with from time to time. Some students are jerks, some are friendly. Again, that's life. My biggest complaint with FIU is the administrative staff, in a word: RUDE. Everyone from Financial Aid, Registrar, Admissions, etc. need a lesson in civility. I don't pay thousands of dollars a year to get mistreated. Constant runaround, conflicting information, you name it I've been through it. If you want something done properly, do it yourself, don't depend on other people. Overall, FIU isn't a bad university—it just needs a little polish. Its the best public school option in South Florida and truly can be a rewarding experience if you make the effort.
