Date: Nov 14 2004 Major: Other (This Major's Salary over time) I graduated from the College of Human Sciences with a BS degree in Fashion Design in 1991… The department during the time of my coursework was very old-fashioned. The teachers had been there so long one wondered if they even knew or cared about opening their eyes to modernizing the classrooms and courses. I didn't feel as though I'd been taught fashion design so much as how to be a seamstress. While the merchandizing track offered students internships, there was absolutely zero career guidance or opportunities for the design students. I felt useless when I came out of there, although I felt I'd learned a lot in my other areas of study. On a positive note, CAD was just coming into the fashion program during my last semester. While I did not have an opportunity to take advantage of the new computers, it was a step in the right direction for the college. In general, I enjoyed my 4 years at FSU—it was an old-fashioned university on a beautiful campus, and there were improvements being made in small doses all around. The football was great, the circus was fun… I have not been back since graduation.
