Date: Jul 28 2003 Major: English (This Major's Salary over time) After attending a christian school in Canada since grade 3, I was familiar with the A Beka curriculum. I also took 2 years of video school in high school so I got to see some of the teachers in action even before I arrived in Florida.During my first semester, I jumped blindly into a short lived romance/engagment with a man who was later possessive and verbally abusive. If it had not been for the college's
keep your hands to yourself
rules, he might have become physically abusive and I could be dead right now.My freshman year was difficult, being away from home for the first time. But I made some wonderful friends and we still manage to keep up-to-date with each other. Many of my professors influenced me both in my educational training and in my personal life. When I collapsed during one of his classes, Dr. Chapman called the nurse at the Graf Center. When she saw me struggling after getting an assignment back from another teacher, Dr. Young let me come to her office and use up her box of Kleenex. When I realized that I needed to end the abusive relationship (we got back together after he broke off our engagement), Dr. Johnson prayed with me and helped me sort out the words I needed to say in my goodbye letter.PCC is not for everyone. The rules are strict, but they are there for a reason. If I had not gone to PCC, I never would have made these wonderful friends and I probably would not have developed as a writer. It is still my goal to publish a novel someday.
