UGA offers abundant opportunities for students to get involved. Like most colleges, however, it is what you make of it. Students looking for a party scene will certainly not be disappointed by downtown Athens' plentiful bars, clubs and live music venues. Those looking for a memorable college experience (pun intended) shouldn't be discouraged, however. While Greek life and football seem to dominate the social scene at UGA, the University offers almost any extracurricular activity one could ask for. The Ramsey Center, intramural fields, nearby trails and the Oconee River provide ample recreation options. Service and professional Greek letter organizations, clubs, and events like $2 movies at the Tate Student Center leave students with no excuse to not get involved on campus in some way. The majority of the student body, staff and faculty are extremely friendly and open-minded. There are a few snobbish students and the occasional arrogant Professor, but students should not let them detract from their experience at UGA. The overwhelming majority of the faculty are extremely willing to help, as long as you take the course seriously. Faculty are plenty aware of UGA's party school reputation and don't have patience for students who miss classes and/or don't do required readings or homework. I'm not a particularly spirited UGA fan, but the school has a way of luring students into its culture. I could write entire pages about what I love about this school after only 1.5 years here. If you visit and think you might like UGA, I can almost guarantee that after 4 years (hopefully not more), you will leave with the best memories and regret having to leave.
