| First
of all, I am taking all my courses at the
Windward campus, so I can't really call HPU a ghetto
school. I actually have graduated from a four-year college on
the mainland, but am just taking courses here at HPU.
But I agree that the downtown campus is a tenth-world
country. There are bums, druggies and weirdos hanging around the
Fort Street area. But the windward campus is totally different.
I think the windward campus is very nice with the
hillside in the back and lush green plants everywhere. I
don't live on campus, so I don't know much about
dorm life. But I do like the weight room /
gym. It's small, cozy, and I feel like I can
use that facility whenever I need to. I also enjoy
my classes and especially the instructors. Speaking of instructors, I'm
glad that a lot of them speak English well! At
my alma mater, I had TA's and professors who came
from other countries and I barely understood what the heck
they said. At HPU, the TA are also instructors, and
they are born in the US. In fact my Chem
TA is also my instructor. The downside to the windward
campus is there's no food court, civilization is quite a
distance away, and the dorm is just isolated! My friend
also told me that his dorm is in one of
the hotels in Waikiki! WTF! He has to get up
6:00AM every morning to get to class on the windward
campus. But that's his perspective. But for me, so far,
I'm very happy here at HPU. I find students here
more approachable than the students at my former college. Oh,
not to mention, if you dorm on th windward campus,
please purchase a car. You don't want to have to
wait for the campus shuttle to take you to downtown.
