Iowa State has an absolutely beautiful campus and the people are very friendly. The surrounding area of Ames can get pretty boring especially if you come from a larger area (Welch ave is about the only option for night life other than house parties or frats). But, if you want the "real college experience" you can definitely get it here. Ames is the definition of a college town. The Spanish department has a very helpful and friendly staff. Unfortunately there aren't many native speakers (you are in the middle of Iowa keep in mind) but they do there best to provide a comprehensive language education. The academic advisers are not very helpful however, so I would recommend keeping track of your own schedule and requirements rather than depending on them to help you graduate in four years.
