I was skeptical at first about a PhD program at an online university, having earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration the old fashioned way from brick-and-mortar institutions.  Like many working adults, the ability to earn my doctorate in virtual classrooms rather than in a land-based program has opened doors for me.  I am now a believer in high-quality online learning — and Capella is among the best for a distance-based graduate school education.  My courses are challenging, and I attend courses with educated, successful professionals who keep the standards of discussion and written submissions high.  My professors have been helpful and available.  The PhD program requires three in-person residencies, each for one week.  I got to know student, faculty and administration face-to-face and developed a sense of community.  I would recommend the traditional four-year residential education for any undergraduate student who can afford it, but as far as a quality graduate program is concerned, Capella has exceeded my expectations.  I know many adult professionals who have very good jobs with prestigious companies, and are part-time Capella students.  Their employers do not look down on Capella or dismiss the online learning mode; on the contrary, these major corporations recognize the value of a Capella graduate degree.  I strongly recommend Capella for the adult professional.  Please do not pay attention to student reviews of campus safety, aesthetics, maintenance, social life, or surrounding city — these factors do not exist for an online university.  What the university does offer are terrific resources to aid in writing and researching, job search, interviews and resumes, and other professional development.  These are the factors that count.
