AVIATION MAINTENANCE MAJORS STAY AWAY!! Lewis University has perhaps the worst aviation technician program in the Midwest, if not the whole country. future aviation mechanics aren't even allowed to touch live aircraft for insurance reasons, the planes we are allowed to touch are all gutted beyond any realistic repair, all the equipment we use is outdated or broken, the program is SEVERELY underfunded (all the money going into landscaping for the campus, some projects we never even finished cuz we ran out of supplies), the teachers are extremely rude and really dont care if you pass or not (some teachers actually seemed to enjoy when people failed tests/quizzes and such), and last but not least…the bachelor's program here requires you to take classes you dont even need as an aviation mechanic! they make you jump through so many hoops for an overall F-grade product. as much as i hate to say it…i would not want a Lewis grad fixing anybody's airplane, thats for sure… if you want to be an aircraft mechanic and you live in Illinois…go to SIU, you will get a quality education there.
