Hello,I am a high school senior that is seriously considering majoring in Biology at NU. The atmosphere and faculty seem great in pamphlets, but I fear that NU is only worth its' prestige, if you know what I mean. Would you say that cut-throat competition and/or snobbery gets in the way of really learning the material? |
Major: Biology (This Major's Salary over time)
Northwestern was not a positive experience for me. It's one of those schools where a person like me would want to spend as much time away on the weekends. I found the social life is based way too much on drinking and I find the people superficial. The academics is rigorous, so make sure you don't slack off in high school. If you want to measure up, I suggest taking full advantage of the AP level classes. The problem with Northwestern is I found this school to be not for me. I think the people here are approachable, but I found it very hard to make good genuine friends. Northwestern revolves too much around the Greek life and I don't particularly like that. I found it extremely difficult to make close friends, but i found it easy to make acquaintances. People find their friends but don't open themselves up past a certain point. I guess I like the idea of the good academics, but I struggled to find my niche at Northwestern and I really was not impressed by the social environment. I don't know if other public schools would be any better, but I found NU, just not for me.
