Unlike what most have said about the lack of social interaction among students, I believe that you can still strike up a conversation with random people on this campus. On Dillo Day, Northwestern's annual spring festival, pretty much everyone avoids work that day to have fun and listen to bands, and you can totally talk to random people and make friends on that day. Being from California, I have found that people here are much friendlier, and if asked (and informed well in advance), will pretty much do anything with you. Of course, you must avoid finals and midterm weeks since there's a 95% chance you will remain isolated in your dorm room, but that's ok.
