Anyone who uses excuses such as "There is good much drinking and partying", "Everyone is from Chicago and/or the suburbs", and "Champaign-Urbana is boring", really should reconsider everything they believe to be true. There are nearly 40,000 students at the U of I. 40,000! Yes, there is alot of drinking and partying but if thats not your thing then there are hundreds of activities, coffee shops and cultural experience in and around the Champaign. Yes, alot of the students are from Chicagoland but if you categorize all Chicago kids as being arrogant, stuck up and rude then you are just as close minded as you claim they are. Yes, Champaign isn't New York, or Los Angeles but there is alot to do there from plays and musicals at Krannert to giving back to the community that calls Champaign home and lets not forget that Chicago, St. Louis and Indianapolis are all about 2.5 hours away. This university is 100% self-dependant, you have so many options, all you have to do is go. As far as academics are concerned, every university has its probably, be it TA's, budgets, etc. But if you make the most out of what you have then I couldn't think of a better place than Illinois.
