Attending the University of Illinois was by far the biggest mistake I have made in my life so far. The school has great resources but at the end of the day, it is brought down by the mentality and aspirations of your average state university. The school's social pulse revolves around drunken revelry. Surrounding the small pockets of excellence (Engineering etc) is a sea of mediocrity. The majority of the students that I have had the displeasure of meeting, aspire to nothing more than drinking and woo-hooing the basketball team. A common mindset that I found amongst the majority of the undergraduates is the typical big fish in a small pond mentality. Most have never lived outside Illinois and their mindsets point to a distinctive suburban, sheltered, decidedly narrow-minded life. And I haven't even touched the subject of rampant academic dishonesty.
