Like anything else in life, it is what you make of it. I had a great experience and almost everyone else I knew did as well.It is a large university with a lot to do and a lot of tradition. We are nationally recognized in academics and athletics. Its true, we PARTY HARD! But we are smart enough to balance it out…Work hard, play hard bitches! If you don't want to be bothered by people screaming in the streets, its as simple as moving to a more quiet area of campus. There is plenty of it!The 6 pack is the shittiest dorm and you will hate the sight of it at first. We endure the hardships of no air conditioning in the hot summer. But almost EVERYONE leaves there thinking that they had the best time of their life. Looking back it was one of my best experiences in college, and I'd go back there without hesitation. Don't be afraid to downgrade your living situation, it certainty livens things up!I joined a frat and it was a great decision, one of the "three kings." I joined my sophmore year because freshman year I felt too much pride to go through the pledging process. I took a step back before getting involved, and I'm so glad I did join because I had so many unbelievable times and met a lot of great people. Understand that there is almost no grey area amongst the students understanding of the greek system, you love 'em or hate 'em. Guys have a great experience, even pledging. It might suck sometimes, but you go through it together. Its not designed to be degrading, but to bring you closer to your pledge brothers because you get through it together. You will have a lot of hillarious stories. And you arent "paying to have friends." You are actually paying for social events so you can make more. There is a place for everyone at the U of I. We all might not agree or get along with each other, but remember its college and not a utopia. But its still large enough where everyone can find a place.WESTON!
