I only have the most positive things to say abut Purdue University. Being one of the top ten largest universitys in the nation (approximately 40,000 students), one would think that every student is "just a number" and could fall through cracks in the system. But that is not so. From the day you first arrive, Resident Assistants and professors are learning your name, and truly care that you succeed. They're also strict, with the logic that once we graduate, we will represent all that Purdue stands for, and everybody here wants that impression to be nothing but the best. Purdue University is located in West Lafayette, a town of only about 20,000 people, but is right across the Wabash River from Lafayette, a city of around 60,000. So the students get the best of both worlds, living on a semi-rural campus, but also close to a larger city, where there is always something to do. The athletics at Purdue is something that brings students together, and the weekends center around these activities. The students and great alumni base pack the stadium on Saturdays, to help cheer on the Boilermakers toward their ninth consecutive bowl game appearance. Intramural sports are also a big thing, especially flag football and basketball, and the recreational sports center, the first of it's kind in the nation, has plenty of activities to keep students busy for as long as they want, with a state-of-the-art weightroom and a brand new Natatorium, where the NCAA swimming championships were held this past year. With a politically conservative campus, highly-regarded academics, famous sports teams, and an atmosphere not known for drinking, I can't fathom a parent that wouldn't be happy if their child chose Purdue University.
