I am attending Purdue University from New York and I am in their world famous aviation program. The school has an amazing balance of work and play and that is quite obvious to people who understand the Big 10 system.

Academically the school is not very easy, and I have struggled with a few courses. However, I expected this to be the case and got over it and passed everything. However, because of this challenge one can walk away and feel very confident in what he or she has learned.

Purdue is a massive school, and that is not for everyone. However, it is also great for people who like a big social atmosphere. For example, the aviation program is small (<1000 people) but the university is huge (~50,000 total), and because of this you are not forced to hang out with the same people constantly from day to day. Likewise, if you need to study, your niche classmates will always be there.

The social life of Purdue is probably all you can get from a university. Purdue has one of the biggest Greek communities of any university in the country and it also participates in the Big 10 sports conference. The weekends here tend to be wild and people come to the university (as opposed to people leaving, a common problem with smaller schools). The student body here is great. We have nearly all walks of life and all types of people. Purdue has one of the biggest international student body of any university. We also represent students from every state in the country.

Like everything though it is sometimes difficult to keep a balance, and that is what is most important. It is good to have access to the large libraries that are all over campus. The campus is clean and laid out nicely. I enjoy it.

If you are thinking of Purdue I would highly recommend it if you are driven by challenging work. The social life is great and the work is hard. However, I think anyone would agree when you finally get out you would be proud to say you are a Purdue alum.

questionI am interested in the aviation program; Profession Flight in particular. Would you say that the average person in the aviation program is pleased with their education?
