| When
I first attended Saint Mary's, I didn't think I would
stay- this seemed to be the feeling among all of
my friends. Being in an all-women's environment takes a bit
of getting used to. In fact, I am not sure
that I truly appreciated it until my senior year. Since
graduation I have been impressed with the community outside of
Notre Dame, Indiana. My first job was found through an
alum that I didn't even know. She took me under
her wing and helped me get my first job. In
interviews, I am always asked about SMC and interviewers always
comment on how impressive they think the degree is. Outside
of the image that the degree itself provides, I am
more than happy about the way that the school has
given me the foundation for a successful life in the
workplace. I find myself knowing things and knowing how to
do things that my co-workers do not know. I am
confident about speaking up in meetings where I am the
only woman surrounded by male VPs- this gains me respect.
There are many other things I am grateful, including my
regained spirituality and compassion for people arround me. I never
would have thought that I would have such a positive
stance on SMC, especially after my first year, but it
really is a good school, and like anything, it is
what you make of it. The only negative that I
would share is that the surrounding city doesn't have much
to offer in terms of a social life, and in
order to meet guys, you have to make an effort
which can sometimes look like you are being forward (ie
it is misread as chasing guys). Other than that, this
is a great place to be.
